A Visual Approach to Scales and Chords on Guitar by Jeffrey McFarland-Johnson is structured into three sections: Music Theory, Note Structures, and a Glossary of Musical Terms. Designed as a comprehensive reference, it caters to musicians and non-musicians alike, regardless of skill level. All illustrations, symbols, icons, chord formation layouts, and cover art—including the Johnsong Music logo—were created and designed by Jason Jobes.
This visual guide emphasizes the interaction between the CAGED chord formation and the five pentatonic block patterns (a new concept the author calls the "CYTZ-BLOCK jigsaw puzzle system") maps the fretboard completely from its beginning to the end of its cycle before repeating itself again. Establishing a greater understanding of the melodic and harmonic layout of the guitar fretboard frees the guitarist to play whatever music they wish to play with assured confidence.
